Why Is 2000 Followers On Twitter So Important?

August 9th, 2010

I have recently launched a Twitter video series to explain and show people everything that is possible with Twitter. I wanted to make sure that everybody had an opportunity to get a birds eye view of why Twitter has been such an amzing business tool. It is such a surprise that more people are not using it. I agree that when you first take a peek it is a bit odd and hard to follow. But it is vital to any business today to make the time to figure it out.

2000 is a really important number of followers to achieve. It is important for 2 reasons, one, Twitter has a rule that you can’t follow more then 2000 people until 2000 or more people are following you, and two, because if you are only following and being followed by a few people then you miss the opportunity to enjoy the tweets and resources that could be streaming through your time line. Also, it is a threshold number that means you are a serious user and that you mean business.

You will probably follow a few major thought leaders or business superstars in your niche, and if you are not following a large number of people you will become overwhelmed when you only see the same people posting and you see 10-20 posts a time from that person. That would not be possible if you were following a few thousand people. Twitter is a gold mine of valuable resources and well suited prospects. You have to stick with it and grow your numbers to personally experience this value.

A large number of Twitter users stop using Twitter after the first month because they just don’t get it. I think that is a huge misfortune because I have have personally had such amazing outcomes. I have met people that I would never of otherwise had the opportunity to meet. People who support me, encourage me, and who share great resources for key information that moves me and my business forward. Also I have connected with people and made money or attracted new clients based solely on Twitter.

I love Twitter and I am a raving fan. I’d be happy and honored to help you have the same or better expeience. I have a free 17 minute video that I’d like to share with you that will offer a helpful overview to get you started or get you to 2000 followers. Http://TreasureTwitterMap.com

Social Media Is A Must To Grow Your Business

June 10th, 2010

If you use social media every week as a way to connect with people you may be very surprised to learn that there is still a large number of people who have not gotten comfortable leveraging social media to expand their business and cultivate new relationships. It is true that more and more people are discovering these sites everyday but the number of people who have not made it a common practice is still a very large number. Many have even set up accounts but because they are new to those sites, they have not put in the time or energy to get familiar with how they work.

To fully utilize social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter (the big 3) you’ll want to start with a compelling profile that shares who you are, your personality and what you do. People need people and are regularly looking for like minded people to meet and to do business with. Your profile should include a link to your blog or website where they can learn even more about you.

The next step is finding people that you feel you have something in common with or would like to get to know better. You connect with people by joining the conversation, leaving comments that are relevant and engaging them to communicate with you in return. When you post or update your status make sure it is valuable and helpful content. People love quotes and powerful questions and they also like to peek in and see what you are working on and how it is going for you.

People are really happy to help and love to teach others what they know. Feel free to ask others online what to do and how to do it. Look to join groups that have come together around topics that are of interest to you or that are related to your business or industry. Take the first step and then take small action steps every day! Before you know it, you’ll be the one teaching others and holding their hand while they become more comfortable!

How about you? Are you using social media to connect with others and to grow your business?

If yes, how long would you say you have been using social media and what is your favorite site?

Social Media Offers Profound Opportunities For Great Relationships

June 3rd, 2010

Think about someone who was in the prime of their business life 20 years ago. When you compare that to how you do business now one of the most profound differences is the Internet and more specifically, social media. I don’t know about you but I feel very lucky to be doing business in this day and age and I just love social media.

Social media offers us an incredible opportunity to meet like minded people and to build very powerful relationships and alliances. By sitting in your home or office and logging online you can meet people from all walks of life from all over the planet. When you think about it in great detail you can get overwhelmed with how incredible it is.

Networking was the way to forge new relationships and grow your business in past generations and I am happy to say that networking is still alive and well. Now we just have more ways to connect with people and to cultivate relationships. In fact mixing the two together is the perfect formula. It is great to meet people in person at events and conferences and then to cultivate and maintain those relationships by keeping in touch online. It is just so much easier to follow up and to stay connected.

The opportunities to meet great people and develop stronger relationships are all around you. What will you do to start the conversation? What will you do to connect and get to know more about them? Social media is a wonderful place is you have a plan and work your plan. Be positive, be a resource, introduce people and find out what they are working on so you can support them. Know what your goal is with meeting new people online and then get in and get out.

What are the opportunities you’d like to create or capture by using social media?

Building Relationships – Try Twitter

April 13th, 2010

Relationships are key for us in building our business and moving forward. Social media has quickly become one of the best tools to stay in touch as well as to build new relationships with people we may never have had the opportunity to meet if it were not for social media. Great people that we have a lot in common with and may even do business with are all over the planet and you can meet them from the comfort of your own home, how cool is that?

Twitter is one of the fasted growing sites and if you are not on twitter already you may want to consider getting involved. I was at a conference last April and one of the first announcements was the twitter hash tag for the event and that the top 3 tweeters would get a door prize. I was not able to participate because I didn’t have an account, in fact I don’t think I knew what it was?? I remember feeling really left out and got an account as soon as I got home.

A great way to develop relationships with people on twitter is to RT (re-tweet) what they are saying or RT their blog posts. You’ll see just to the right of my post is a little gray box with a green click button underneath. When you click that it will put a link to that post out on your twitter stream. This is a very nice thing to do and you are more then welcome to practice here on my blog (hint hint). Practice as many times as you like!

The reason this can help you cultivate stronger relationships is because the person you RTed will know you did that for them and will more often then not, stop by to thank you on your page. You can tell who is talking about you or to you by clicking where the @ sign is next to yout twitter handle, under your home button in the right side bar. Be sure to check that each time you are on twitter. Follow up with people and get to know who they are and how you can support them.

Poll question? Do you use twitter? If you do, has it helped you build some great relationships? If you don’t, what is the biggest challenge or reason why not? Share your feed back here and leave a comment.

Relationship Building With Like Minded People

April 6th, 2010

When you play big and want great things for yourself you wake up one day and realize you are in the company of some of the greatest people. If you are attending seminars, taking classes and workshops or even attending online events how could you not be meeting like minded people? These new friends are a great resource.

They are willing to do what it takes as well and have some big ideas and goals of their own. From the people you have been meeting over the past year, who have you really connected with? Do you know what it is that they are working towards and what their biggest goals are? Find out and start encouraging them, start paying attention where and how you can support them with some inspiration or a resource.

You’ll make some strong relationships with some people who are growing at the same speed you are and you will no doubt receive the same level of encouragement and support in return. So many of my clients express a need and desire to make friends with positive and supportive people especially when they are going in a new direction and growing and are not receiving the encouragement they need from the people that are currently closest to them.

Today, take some time to reach out to 3 people and find out what they are working on? Let them know that you would like to support them and for them to keep in touch with you about their progress. Of course don’t leave it to them to check in with you, reach out to them at least once a week to offer encouragement. Also do what you can to promote what they are working on through your social media channels and your community emails.

If you don’t know who you would or could reach out to then you need to get out and network as well as attend industry events. Like minded people who see big things in their future are a big part of your own growth and development, so make it a priority!
